Navi Mumbai Tamil Sangam has just entered into its 42nd year, As the leading Tamil organisation in the state of Maharashtra, the Sangam plans to expand its scope of activities both in quantitative and qualitative aspects.
Building expansion and modernisation initiative is the Sangam’s first step in this great direction. This proposal has been under consideration by the members for quite some time. The current building complex has been constructed a few decades back and it needs an overall revamping. The existing building has been constructed by the esteemed founders of the Sangam by optimising the limited funds which was at their disposal at that point of time. They have strived hard and provided some basic amenities in the building. Subsequently, the building complex has undergone a lot of wear and tear over a period of time. Recent structural audit report has indicated that the Sangam’s structural stability is in a very bad shape and it must be strengthened immediately.
Besides, in order to keep pace with the current trends, certain modern amenities have to be provided for in the building complex. Thus, the provision of lift facility in the building is a necessity since most of the Sangam’s members are senior citizens. To enhance the quality of the programs presented , the Sangam also needs state of art auditoriums and air conditioning facility.
At present , NMTS is undertaking various initiatives to promote literature, fine arts, educational services, Thirukkural popularisation services etc. Our Sangam is a recognised centre for the Tamil Nadu Government’s Virtual Tamil Academy. The Sangam also conducts free Tamil classes . Marathi learning has also been encouraged by the Sangam and free Marathi classes are being held in the Sangam as and when there is a request from the learners. Vocal carnatic music and Mridangam classes are being held to promote musical taste and talent among the youngsters.
Sangam’s future plans include the introduction of various additional classes to enable the holistic development of the citizens. Thus the Sangam proposes to inaugurate classes to propagate Yoga, Martial arts, Bharatha Natyam, Veena , Violin , Art & Craft talents etc. To implement these proposals Sangam needs spacious class rooms and adequate infrastructure. Besides the existing library suffers a space crunch and it also needs additional space and storage facilities. The Sangam plans to have a ‘counselling centre’ to empower the citizens to meet the challenges faced in their life and career. Each one of the above proposals require building expansion and modernisation.
Besides, NMTS proposes to embark on various welfare projects as outlined by the Sangam’s bye-laws Thus, with the support of members and well wishers the Sangam plans to create special corpus funds and utilise the income from the corpus to promote Education , Health care and Environment protection measures . Such welfare measures will enhance the lives of the citizens of Navi Mumbai in general and the Tamil community in particular.
The successful completion of the building expansion and its modernisation project will pave the way for the fulfilment of all the above mentioned future plans of the Sangam. The estimated overall cost for the completion of this mega project is around 2.5 crores. The Sangam seeks generous donations from members, patrons and worldwide Tamil organisations to undertake the building expansion and modernisation plan and thereby fulfil its long cherished dream..
