Kaviyarasar Kannadasan’s Birthday celebration online competitions!

Greetings from Navi Mumbai Tamil Sangam.
Our Tamil Sangam has been celebrating the birth anniversary of Kaviyarasar Kannadasan for the past 4 years by organising events like light music, patti mandram (debate) and Kaviyarangam (Poets meet) based on his work. This year the celebration has taken the form of online competitions for the members’ families in music, essay and poem based on Kaviyarasar’ s contributions.
The Music competition was judged by a panel of eminent judges comprising of Mrs. Praveena Gouthaman and Mrs. R. Meenalatha. Navi Mumbai Tamil Sangam thanks the Judges for accepting our request to judge our online music competition.
The music competition was held in two rounds. The first-round audio video tapes were received by 5-5-2020 and were sent to the Judges for screening candidates for the final round. The selected participants were required to send a full song for the final round, and these were received by 18-5-2020. The judges selected ‘Best five’ and ranked them in the order of merit.
Essay writing and Poetry writing competitions were also held, and the participants submitted their entries by 7-5-20’Two eminent Tamil scholars Mr. S. Muthiah and Mrs. Banumathy Shankar judged the entries. We are happy to inform you that the winners’ contributions will be uploaded in our website to be on Kaviyarasar Kannadasan’s birthday which falls on 24-6-2020.NMTS thanks the participants and the Judges for their support and cooperation.
Music competition judges
Mrs. Praveena Gouthaman is both an academician and an eminent musician. She has recently retired from a leading college in Mumbai after an illustrious service of 33 years. She is a double postgraduate in music who has done her post-graduation in vocal Carnatic music and Veena from the Madras University. She has also done a diploma course in music from Mumbai University and a certificate course in Veena from Shanmukananda Sangeetha Vidyalaya., Mumbai. Mrs. Praveena has rendered concerts in USA & Canada and in several sabhas in India. Her concerts have been telecasted across India. She has been conferred the title ‘Shanmukha Mani’ in Veena by Shanmukananda Sangeetha Vidyalaya. She conducts workshops in music to enrich the knowledge of the students. At present she is a faculty of Chembur Fine Arts and Natanapria Nadham music schools.
Mrs. R. Meenalatha is a retired officer from MTNL and is the recipient of many awards. Mrs. Meenalatha is a flute artist by training, and a freelance singer. She is one of the most sought-after judges for music competitions in and around Mumbai. She is a veteran playwright and an actor. Mrs. Meenalatha is a public speaker and has participated in many patti mandrams. She writes columns and articles for Tamil magazines. She is an accomplished Bridge player too.
Essay writing and Poetry writing competition judges
Mr. S. Muthiah serves as a teacher in BMC school. He is a veteran teacher who plays the role of a ‘trainer’ for prospective teachers. Mr. Muthiah is the recipient of ‘Nal Asiriyar virudhu’ (Best Teacher Award’) for the year 2010. He is an excellent writer and an orator. He is at present the secretary of the BMC Tamil School Teachers Association. He is a dedicated social worker who takes special care to train and showcase the talents of under privileged children
Mrs. Banumathy Shankar is an M. Phil scholar in Tamil. She served as a teacher in Madurai for almost a decade and at present she teaches Tamil for the 11th and 12th standard students of SIES group of colleges. She has won many awards for her writing and public speaking skills. She is a spiritually inclined scholar and has rendered many hymns in praise of enlightened teachers and God. At present she is in the panel of Maharashtra textbook panel Bal Bharathi and is rendering her contributions to the preparation of textbooks for school children.
